In this guide
Republic Day trips from Delhi should begin with the leave calendar, not a distant destination list. In 2027, 26 January falls on Tuesday. Travellers who normally have Saturday and Sunday off can make a four-day 23–26 January break only if Monday 25 January is also available as leave. A three-day or two-day plan needs a different departure and return arrangement.
This guide compares Jaipur, Agra, Bharatpur, Rishikesh and a longer hill option using the days actually available. It is a leisure-trip planning guide, not a promise of Delhi parade access or a statement that every office or school observes the same holiday pattern.
Quick comparison: choose by days and interests
| Destination / option | Useful duration | Main experience | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agra | 2 days | One-night heritage break | Place the Taj on an open day and preserve the return margin |
| Bharatpur | 2–3 days | Birding-focused local stay | A local night can simplify the early park visit |
| Jaipur | 3 days | Fort and city heritage | One full local day between the road journeys |
| Rishikesh | 3 days | Riverfront and a measured family stay | Choose a practical hotel approach and selective visits |
| Nainital region | 4 days | Lake-town holiday with two local days | Suitable only if the family accepts the transfer time |
| Shimla | 4 days | Town-based hill stay | Keep a changed winter outing and return buffer in mind |
Use the 2027 calendar honestly
A four-day 23–26 January trip is an option for travellers with Monday leave and the relevant weekend off. It is not a default four-day holiday for everyone. Confirm each household’s school, work and return commitments before choosing one group booking; one person needing an earlier return can change the vehicle and room plan.
If you have only two days, choose a short focused break. If you have three, keep one base with a full local day. Four days can support two local days at a destination with a longer approach, but they do not turn a far Himalayan circuit into an effortless weekend.
The Delhi parade and city events are separate matters. If a guest also wants to attend an official event, check current authorised ticket, reporting and security guidance when available. Do not build a leisure pickup around unconfirmed assumptions about access near event areas.
For the detailed service plan, compare Compare weekend packages and check its transport sectors and overnight arrangement.
Two days: Agra or a focused Bharatpur stay
An Agra overnight can use the first day for the transfer, hotel and fort, with the Taj visit on the next open morning. Check Friday if the actual trip is on nearby dates, and leave a flexible Delhi return. A festival or public holiday does not override the Taj’s regular general-viewing closure.
Bharatpur suits a party genuinely interested in birding. A local night can support an early Keoladeo visit without relying on a very early fog-sensitive Delhi drive. Confirm current park entry and the permitted guide/rickshaw/cycle arrangement. A wildlife sighting or a particular species is not a booking inclusion.
For either destination, choose one main experience and avoid automatically adding several nearby towns. A two-day holiday should not become a series of transfers with only brief photo stops. Keep the hotel, meal and luggage arrangements clear so the short stay is actually comfortable.
For the detailed service plan, compare Agra overnight tour and check its transport sectors and overnight arrangement.
Three days: Jaipur or Rishikesh with a proper local day
Jaipur is a useful heritage choice when the group can leave one full day between the outward and return journeys. Put Amer and a selective city block into a coherent programme with a meal/rest break. A guide can help the visits make sense, while shopping and additional museums remain choices rather than compulsory stops.
Rishikesh offers a different pace. Select a hotel by the real entrance, parking and room access, then choose a riverfront or local-visit programme the family wants. Aarti viewing needs crowd and approach planning; adventure activities require separate current confirmation and suitability checks.
On the last day, begin with the return requirement and work backwards. A quick additional visit may fit, but it should not consume the whole road margin. Share any Delhi airport, station or office-reporting deadline before accepting the proposal.

Four days: when a hill trip is sensible
Nainital or Shimla can be considered when four real days are available and the party accepts winter transfer uncertainty. Keep both middle days for local time and rest. Do not combine several hill regions just because one extra leave day has been added.
For Nainital, compare a central town hotel with a lake-region property by walking and daily driving. For Shimla, confirm pedestrian-area approach and luggage movement. The best room photograph does not establish lift access or a convenient vehicle gate.
Keep snow-related outings conditional, and avoid making them the fixed final-day programme. If the group cannot tolerate a changed excursion or a delayed return, a closer heritage or riverside destination may fit the leave better. The useful question is whether the whole itinerary works, not whether a hill town is popular in January.

Delhi pickup and holiday-period movement
Confirm the exact pickup address and whether any current traffic/security restrictions affect it. Official arrangements for the actual January dates should be checked closer to departure. Do not invent future road closures, event access rules or a special route before the authorities publish them.
For a group with guests across NCR, one accessible meeting point can be simpler than several successive collections. If feeder transfers are needed, price them separately and leave a clear meeting buffer. Count every guest and bag before choosing the main vehicle.
Agree the return meeting points at attractions and the final Delhi drops. A mini bus, Tempo Traveller or Urbania may suit the group on the highway but still need a local parking or smaller-transfer arrangement. No vehicle category gives automatic access to pedestrian or restricted zones.
Book the trip around the complete cost and return plan
Ask for the actual hotel nights, room category, occupancy, meals and any holiday-period minimum stay or event charge. Confirm heating and hot water where relevant. For a short break, convenient access and a sensible check-in plan can matter more than a long list of advertised amenities.
The transport offer should identify duty dates, route, local use, fuel, driver allowance, tolls, parking, taxes and extra hours/kilometres. Tickets, guides, boats, safari services and local transfers must be named if included. Compare the same programme before deciding that one headline price is cheaper.
Keep payment, change and cancellation conditions for each service clear. An enquiry is not a confirmed room, permit or vehicle. If attendance changes, ask for a revised rooming and passenger plan rather than assuming the previous total can simply be divided by a new guest count.
A complete three-day Jaipur example
On day one, use the Delhi transfer, hotel arrival and a light introduction as the core programme. On day two, visit Amer in one block and a selected city heritage area after a meal/rest break. On day three, choose only a short remaining visit if the return margin allows, then drive to the agreed Delhi drop.
This outline can be adapted for the group, but it should not silently become three full sightseeing days. The two transfers and hotel formalities still need time. Confirm what happens if the arrival is later than expected and which optional visit is removed first.
The same principle applies to a Rishikesh short break: choose the main riverfront or local experience, a suitable hotel and one full local day. Activities, ceremonies and additional outings need their own current checks and should not be counted as guaranteed by default.
Choose the right short break for a mixed group
Birding at Bharatpur suits guests who enjoy patient observation, while Agra suits a focused monument visit. Jaipur offers varied heritage; Rishikesh provides a different riverside setting. Ask the group to choose its main reason for travel before comparing vehicle rates.
If guests have different return requirements, settle them before booking one continuous vehicle and shared hotel rooms. A separate airport drop or earlier departure may need another service. Clear attendance, bags and room sharing make a short holiday easier to quote and easier to enjoy.
Delhi route, kilometre and travel-time estimates
These are broad road-planning ranges from Delhi areas, not live navigation or guaranteed arrival times. They exclude sightseeing and can change with NCR collection points, comfort breaks, congestion, fog, snow/ice, restrictions and the exact hotel. Recheck the actual route close to travel. Longer totals should be split into sensible stages where appropriate.
| Stage | Common planning corridor | Approx. distance | Planning allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi–Jaipur | NH48 corridor | 260–300 km | 5–7 hours |
| Delhi–Agra | Yamuna Expressway approach | 220–250 km | 4–5.5 hours |
| Delhi–Rishikesh | Meerut–Haridwar corridor | 240–280 km | 5.5–7.5 hours |
Suggested itineraries: keep the transfer days visible
2 days · Agra
Transfer, hotel and fort; Taj on a non-Friday morning, checkout and Delhi return. Keep optional additions minimal.
3 days · Jaipur or Rishikesh
One outward day, one complete local day and one return day. Plan the last attraction only after the final Delhi deadline is clear.
4 days · 23–26 January 2027 if leave allows
Use Monday leave to retain two local days at one base. A hill plan needs weather flexibility; a closer destination can provide more rest.
Frequently asked questions
Is Republic Day 2027 a four-day weekend?
Not automatically. It falls on Tuesday. A 23–26 January four-day break depends on your weekend pattern and having Monday 25 January available as leave.
Are Delhi parade tickets included in these trips?
No. This is leisure-trip planning. Any official event ticket, eligibility and reporting arrangement is separate and must follow current authorised guidance.
Can we fit Manali into a normal two-day break?
The long transfers leave very little useful local time. Choose more days or a closer destination.
Will Delhi roads be closed for our pickup?
Check current official traffic/security notices closer to the dates. Future restrictions should not be guessed; confirm the actual pickup and departure route.
Can a short break include a wildlife safari?
Only when the actual permit, reporting time, operator and vehicle arrangements are confirmed. A resort or nature stay does not automatically include one.
